Keep Our Footy Stadium
Currently the State government is considering legislation that would enable all lands around venues owned by Venues NSW, this includes the WIN Stadium and surrounding land in Wollongong, and would allow development for residential or visitor accommodation on the site.
This Sporting Venues Authorities Amendment Bill reduces our public land and could be used for profit developers.
The government's current plans around WIN Stadium are for stadium upgrades, a beachfront promenade, and commercial development, no residential or hotel, and Paul Scully Member for Wollongong confirmed under oath "there will be no hotel". However another member of parliament, Stephen Kamper, Minister for Land and property has refused to amend the bill with a carve-out for Wollongong and confirmed this isn't an oversight, but deliberate to keep the door open in future and not have any restrictions on any of their land holdings except the SCG.
This bill is a gift to property developers, which Labor tried to pass quietly before Christmas, and permits far more than what they've told the community.
